Just about everyone understands that a college education can make a huge difference in one’s lifetime earning potential and overall intellectual fulfillment. But oftentimes, a little extra guidance is necessary to obtain success. When you use the above information, you will make better choices as far as college goes.

EarthCollege.org was created with an eye to the future.  The importance of educating ourselves, our children, and the world couldn’t be any greater than it is today!

With the vision that more and more college and overall education will be taking place online, we are hoping to provide a framework that will make navigating online degree programs easier.

At this early stage, EarthCollege.org does not offer its own online degrees; however, this is the plan for the long term future.  Down the road we hope to cover the basics of reading, writing, and arthmetic; however, we also want to cover the specifics that the next generation will need to get a high paying job.

These “specifics” may include anything from: Technical college programs, Car Mechanics for the beginner, Nursing Programs including CNA training, Welding apprenticeships, and so much more.

Yes, we recognize that our goals are quite ambitious to take on such a wide variety of topics and disciplines, but this is a “big hairy audacious goal” (BHAG) for the future!

For the present, we are focused on developing our presence online here further, with the immediate focus on expanding our website itself.

Now, I want to take a minute to discuss how we might prioritize which areas of emphasis we will start with when developing classes.  Our top priority will be demand of the market so that we can place as many students as possible once they graduate.

So, as exciting as the field of croquet is, because there is not a high demand in the market for these employees (if they even exist), croqueting classes are not going to be something that we focus on at the beginning.

On the other hand, jobs in the healthcare field ARE in extremely high demand.  Lets take a look at some of the numbers. According to the BLS.gov site, there was over 2.7 million nurses in the US in the year 2010 (the last year for which full statistics were provided).

However, the truly exciting thing about the nursing field is how fast it is growing!  According the the Bureau of Labor Statistics, its expected to grow at a rate of 26% from 2010 to 2020.  This is much faster than the average job growth for other industries.  In addition, Registered Nurses are paid very well, approximately $65,000 annually or about $31 an hour.

The healthcare field overall is actually very exciting.  Not only are registered nurses in high demand, but so are doctors, certified nursing assistants, LPNs, and all general medical assistants.

For those that are not quite ready to jump into a full Registered Nursing program for example, there are careers that can be great stepping stones, such as becoming a CNA.  A CNA helps nurses take care of patients by performing basic tasks like dressing and feeding patients.

From an education perspective, CNAs must pass a standard test to earn their certification before they can be fully employed.  These are the types of angles that we would take to educate potential students.  We would provide practice tests for CNAs as well as full classroom training to help them master the skills they need.  Since we don’t have full testing or education services just yet, you can find tests online such as the one referenced here.

These are the types of degrees and education that we will focus on.  High demand degrees that both pay well and have lots of opportunity for growth.  Have we bitten off more than we can chew?  Perhaps, but that’s something that only time will tell.

For now, we plan to provide free information on various topics that we feel are relevant.  So, if you have stumbled on our site before we have active degree programs…thank you for stopping by!

Overall, we want to emphasize that we truly feel that online degree programs are the way to educate students for the future.  In fact the trend has already begun, according to the post gazette, there are already over 6 million students taking online classes!  And this is an increase of over 500,000 from the previous year.  The expansion is astounding, and there are no signs that its slowing down.

Some of these students are signing up for programs that are offered through traditional colleges such as Cal U online or BYU online.  On the other hand, there has been a huge growth in the number of entrepreneurial online universities and colleges offering degrees.

Students truly have the opportunity now to pick the degree that they want, find an online or traditional college that meets their needs, and they still have the chance to compare and contrast price and teaching styles.

Overall, we hope that Earth college will become a powerhouse in the online college world.  We have big ambitions.  Even though we will be starting out small and hope to move up in the world slowly; we are confident that we can get there.

We appreciate the support!
